What A Wild Football Weekend!!!
It never ceases to entertain us, it is our National Pastime. I'm talking about FOOTBALL!!!!
And this past weekend (the first full weekend of the NFL season) was no exception. From the high school games on Friday night, all the way through the college games on Saturday, and then the NFL on Sunday and Monday. Let's start with the high school games.
HIGH SCHOOL
Congratulations to the Okemos Wolves for breaking their 41 game losing streak by shutting out Clio 35-0 last Friday night. It's their first win since Week 2 of the 2019 season.
But the best team so far is DeWitt. They thrashed defending Division 3 finalist Mason 55-21 to move to 2-0 on the young season. QB Elliott Larner has accounted for 13 TD's in the first two weeks of the season.
COLLEGE
Michigan State got a huge road win by beating Maryland, 27-24. Jonathan Kim hit the game-winning field goal in the final seconds. But MSU may have found their next star player in freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh. He had his coming out party, making eight catches for 194 yards and the touchdown that tied the game in the 4th quarter.
MSU will be 3-0 after they beat Prairie View A & M this Saturday. And then they head to Boston College the week after that.
As for Michigan, they got manhandled by Texas at Michigan Stadium. 31-12 was not indicative as to how much Texas dominated that game. Quinn Ewers was tremendous for the Longhorns. You could see why people think Texas could win the National Championship.
Michigan has major issues on offense. Especially on the offensive line and at quarterback. They'll beat Arkansas State this Saturday, but after that...who knows.
And how great was it to see Northern Illinois beat Notre Dame 16-14 in South Bend?? That's why college football is so great.
NFL
They are the cream of the crop. Kansas City won a wild Thursday night game over Baltimore. Philadelphia got a great performance from Saquan Barkley in their win over Green Bay on Friday. And then teams like Dallas, Buffalo, New Orleans, and the L.A. Chargers all won their season openers impressively.
And it got capped off by the Detroit Lions' 26-20 overtime victory over the L.A. Rams. And then San Francisco looked good in beating the NY Jets, 32-19, in the Monday Night game.
This weekend showed why football is king in America. It has left baseball, and all the other sports in the dust. The TV ratings show it.
