This post was originally going to be about Michigan State's win over Mississippi State in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.  And State played one of their best games of the season to get the win.

But I'm not going to talk anymore about Michigan State.  The rest of this article is about Oakland University's 80-76 victory over college basketball blue-blood Kentucky.

What made this a huge upset was the fact the Oakland, the 14 seed in the South region, knocked off the 3rd seed in Kentucky.

There is a long list of incredible upsets in the now-84 year history in the NCAA Men's Tournament.  And now Oakland University, which is based in suburban Detroit, joins that list.

The Golden Grizzlies outplayed the Wildcats pretty much from the opening jump ball.  They were 15-31 from the 3-point line for the game.  And graduate senior Jack Gohlke hit 10 3's on his way to a 32 point night OFF THE BENCH!!!  He didn't even start!!!  Gohlke was 10-20 from the 3-point line and didn't even attempt a 2-point shot!  Remarkable.

Trey Townsend had 17 points and 12 rebounds for Oakland, and DQ Cole's 3-pointer in the final minute was the last dagger in the Wildcats heart.

And how about longtime head coach Greg Kampe (pictured above)??  He is in his 40th year at Oakland, and he has led this program in its transition from Division II into Division I (which occurred in the late 1990s).  The Golden Grizzlies have been in 3 previous NCAA Tournaments (2005, 2010, 2011)

This is the first-ever win in the NCAA Tournament for Oakland.  And now they'll face another Cinderella story in North Carolina State in Round 2.  NC State had to win the ACC Tournament just to get in the Big Dance.

But after beating Kentucky, why can't Oakland beat N.C. State?  Huh??!!  Why not Oakland??!!

WHY NOT OAKLAND!!!???
