Final Lansing-Area Girls Basketball Top 10 Poll
Another season of high school girls basketball is in the books. And now it's time to reveal the final top 10 poll of the season.
But first, congratulations to our league champions this season. DeWitt won the CAAC Blue, Williamston surprised many by winning the CAAC Red. Portland and Lansing Catholic shared the CAAC White championship, and Portland St. Patrick won the CMAC.
It was a bit of a different story in the district tournament. Haslett defeated Williamston to win the Division 2 district title. Lansing Catholic beat Portland on their home court to win the Division 3 district title. And Fowler knocked off Portland St. Patrick to win the Division 4 district crown.
Also, Holt (14-8 to start the state tournament) upset both East Lansing and Jackson Northwest to win the Division 1 district championship. And 19-2 Ovid-Elsie (who won the Mid-Michigan Athletic Conference title) was knocked out by New Lothrop in their district opener. Other district champions were: DeWitt, P-W, and Leslie.
More surprises awaited in the regional tournament as Holt upset DeWitt and Portage Central to win their second straight regional title. Defending state champ Lansing Catholic was upset by Tecumseh in the regional final at Charlotte. And both P-W and Leslie were beaten in the regional semifinals.
After defeating Portland St. Patrick in the district finals, the Fowler Eagles breezed through their regional to advance to the quarterfinals again. And then they blew out Mendon in the quarters to make it to the Breslin Center for the fifth year in a row.
Holt had a chance to make it to the Breslin Center. But after leading for better than 3 quarters over Belleville, The Rams lost to the Tigers 44-39.
And even though Fowler was crushed by eventual state champion Ishpeming in the semifinals, just getting there after all the players they've lost over the last two seasons is a major accomplishment.
Ok, on with the final girls poll for the season:
