Just because a band is from Canada doesn't mean they are a hockey fan, but one member of Nickelback is a hockey fan and a Detroit Red Wings Fan.

I am lucky enough to meet a lot of bands and several over the years who are from Canada. Many are hockey fans and some are not. I'm actually surprised at how many Canadians love the NFL over the NHL.

Three of the members of Nickelback are from Hanna, Alberta Canada which is a small town of around 2,500. Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, and Ryan Peake all grew up there. One of the three happens to be a huge fan of the Detroit Red Wings.

It turns out that the big Red Wings fan in Nickelback is bassist Mike Kroeger who is the brother of singer/guitarist Chad Kroeger.

Mike Kroeger also grew up in Hanna with a man by the name of Jim Nill. If his name sounds familiar it is because he once worked in the front office of the Detroit Red Wings and is now the GM for the Dallas Stars.

According to Mlive, Kroeger said, "I've been a supporter of the Detroit Red Wings for my whole music career. So, whenever we've been in the Detroit area, I try to do whatever I can to be close to anything Red Wings related. For a lot of our career, Nill was the assistant GM of the Wings. He would give me access that I never would have had any other way had I knot known him including meeting the players."

So if you see Nickelback on their current "Get Rollin" tour at Van Andel or Pine Knob and you are standing in front of Mike Kroeger wearing some Red Wings gear, don't be surprised if you get a friendly nod from the bassist.
