John C. Reilly Crashes Jack White’s Birthday at Detroit Tigers Game
Leave it to John C. Reilly to turn a Detroit Tigers game into comedy gold.
Fans at Comerica Park on Wednesday, July 10th got an unexpected treat when the actor, (known for roles in Step Brothers, Talladega Nights, and Walk Hard) took the mic to serenade none other than Jack White with a very theatrical (and very hilariously over the top) rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
Jack White is a proud Detroit native, so he was celebrating his birthday at a Tigers game like any good native would, when Reilly appeared like a chaotic musical angel, belting out the song with his on-brand dramatic flair.
At one point, Jack White was seen holding his face to stop from laughing, clearly caught off guard by Reilly’s over-the-top delivery in front of the entire stadium.
The video posted by the MLB shows that he leaned into the moment: arm raised, eyes closed, completely committed to the bit. As always, it was classic John C. Reilly with just the right blend of ridiculous and charming.
The pair are longtime friends (Reilly even recently starred in White’s music video for “Archbishop Harold Holmes”), and fans who know their history weren’t too surprised to see the actor pop up at a Detroit event. Still, the moment felt perfectly offbeat and purely Michigan.
If you needed a reminder that Tigers games can deliver more than just home runs, this birthday performance might be it:
